Financial aid programs at Provo College

Federal grants are need-based forms of financial assistance that typically do not require repayment for those who qualify. Eligibility is determined through the information submitted on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). At Provo College, qualifying students may be considered for programs such as the Federal Pell Grant and other federal or state grant opportunities. Award amounts and availability are determined annually according to federal and state guidelines and may vary based on individual financial circumstances and enrollment status. You can find more detailed information regarding financial aid in the Provo College catalog.

Scholarships are a form of financial assistance that generally does not require repayment and may help lower your overall education costs. Awards may be based on a variety of factors, including academic achievement, financial need, demonstrated talent, or other qualifying criteria. Provo College offers institutional scholarships and grant opportunities in alignment with current catalog guidelines and eligibility requirements. Availability, qualifications, and award amounts may vary by program and campus. Students are also encouraged to pursue external scholarship opportunities through community organizations, employers, and national foundations to further support their educational goals.

College Merit Scholarship – $500

The College Merit Scholarship is a $500 award available to three-quarter-time and full-time students who demonstrate both academic merit and financial need. First-year students may apply after successfully completing two academic terms. Awards are distributed during the student’s second academic year and divided evenly across terms. Eligible recipients may receive the Merit Scholarship for up to two academic years, subject to award limits per year.

PN to BSN Alumni Grant – Up to $10,000

This grant is available to graduates of Provo College’s Vocational and Practical Nursing program who enroll in the Provo College Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. Awards are based on financial need and require completion of the FAFSA. The maximum grant amount is $10,000, disbursed proportionately in the student’s final two semesters. There is no cash value for this grant, and students who withdraw prior to completing the program will forfeit unearned amounts.

MA to PN or BSN Alumni Grant – Up to $2,000

This grant is available to graduates of Provo College’s Medical Assisting diploma program who enroll in either Provo College’s pre-licensure Practical Nursing program or Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. It is awarded based on financial need and requires completion of the FAFSA. The maximum grant amount is $2,000, awarded proportionately in the final two semesters of the program. This grant may only be used once, either for the PN program or BSN program, but not both.

Military Grant

The Military Grant is available to qualifying service members and their immediate family members. Funds are disbursed evenly throughout the length of the program and may be applied toward tuition, books, and fees. Financial need is calculated by subtracting total direct institutional costs from all other available aid.

Student loans

Student loans are borrowed funds used to help cover educational expenses and must be repaid with interest. Eligible students who complete the FAFSA form may qualify for federal student loans through the U.S. Department of Education, which typically offer fixed interest rates and structured repayment options. In some cases, students or parents may also consider private educational loans through outside lenders if additional funding is needed, with terms and approval requirements determined by the lender.

Provo College does not recommend specific private lenders. Students may choose any lender, but are encouraged to carefully review interest rates, repayment terms, fees, and borrower protections before committing to a private loan. Students should also confirm that Provo College is an eligible institution with their chosen lender. Once approved, the college can certify the loan with the lender.

Federal Loans

The U.S. Department of Education provides federal student loans to eligible students and parents. These loans have terms and conditions established by federal law, including fixed interest rates and standardized repayment options. Types of federal loans may include Direct Subsidized Loans (for eligible students with financial need; interest may be paid by the government while enrolled at least half-time), Direct Unsubsidized Loans (available to eligible students regardless of financial need; interest accrues while enrolled), and Direct Parent PLUS Loans (available to eligible parents of dependent undergraduate students). Eligibility for federal loans is determined through the FAFSA form.

Private Loans

Private loans are offered by banks, credit unions, or other financial institutions and are not federally insured. Approval is based on the lender’s credit and underwriting criteria, and interest rates and repayment terms vary by lender. Most private lenders require borrowers to be U.S. citizens, nationals, or permanent residents with established credit. Students with no credit or poor credit history may need a creditworthy co-borrower. International students may qualify with an eligible U.S. cosigner and required immigration documentation.

Federal Work-Study

Federal Work-Study (FWS) is a need-based financial aid program that allows eligible students to earn money through part-time employment while enrolled in school. Eligibility is determined through the FAFSA form and requires demonstrated financial need. Students who are interested in participating must complete the FAFSA form, indicate interest in part-time work, and meet program requirements. FWS participants may obtain paid positions at the college or with approved nonprofit agencies or for-profit organizations, earning at least the current minimum hourly wage. Students are paid based on hours worked rather than receiving funds upfront, and earnings may help offset educational expenses. An added benefit of the program is that FWS earnings are not counted toward the following year’s federal aid eligibility calculation.

Funding is limited, awarded annually beginning July 1, and distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested students should speak with a Financial Aid representative for guidance. Participation requires submission of a resume and employment application, and placement is subject to eligibility and available funding.

Net price calculator

Provo College’s Net Price Calculator is an online planning resource designed to help students and families estimate the potential net cost of attendance. The calculator is based on full-time enrollment for a first-time student and reflects current aid year costs and awarding policies. It assumes submission of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). While the results are only estimates and do not represent a final financial aid award or official net price, the tool provides helpful general cost and eligibility information to support informed financial planning.
